What's in a Name?

Friday March 2, 2007
I recently received a fun question from a reader. She asked: "If someone who does yoga is a yogi, what is someone who does Pilates?".

I actually don't know any official name for someone who does Pilates. I often say, Pilates practitioner. But I started thinking, what could we call ourselves? Maybe a Pilates practitioner could be something cooler sounding like a Pilati, a Pilatian or, maybe Contrologen (Contrology being the name Joseph Pilates originally gave his work).

After the big hub-bub (read lawsuit) a few years ago over the ownership and meaning of the name/word Pilates, I'm not about to take up any position on getting us an official practitioner name, but it is fun think about.

Do you have an idea for a name for Pilates people? Click on the comments link below and let's see what we can come up with.
