Pilates - Compound Exercise Benefits
Monday March 24, 2008
Pilates exercises are compound exercises. That means that they train multiple muscle groups and work several joints at the same time. In a recent article entitled Which is Better - Compound or Isolation Exercises?, Elizabeth Quinn, About's guide to sports medicine, reviewed the many benefits of compound exercises. They include getting a faster full body workout, improving joint stability, increased stamina, more calories burned, and improved coordination.
Compound exercises are especially useful in functional fitness training where the body is being trained to perform everyday activities like walking, lifting, and turning more easily. After all, we don't live in a gym or studio. So a single workout that can help you look better, feel better, and actually move better all at once is a big benefit.
