The rolling exercises, those that articulate the spine by rolling and unrolling it, are signature Pilates moves. They are found throughout the Pilates method, from the mat to all of the equipment.
Rolling exercises promote flexibility, stimulate the spine and circulation, and, to cite a strangely popular and apt phrase, they are "killer ab exercises". Rolling exercises make the abdominal muscles work really hard to support and control the articulation of the spine.
I have long had it in mind to create a reference page with instructions for the rolling exercises of the classic mat repertoire. This week, I've got that for you. I hope it encourages you to include Pilates rolling exercises in your workouts.
