Exercise of the Week: Standing Pilates Rolling Like a Ball

Wednesday May 14, 2008
standing pilatesIt's very interesting to take the idea of the classic Pilates mat exercise, rolling like a ball, into the standing position. Don't worry, you don't drop and roll, you stay standing. This one will work your core stability, leg strength, balance, and coordination.

About Those Nasty Plastic Water Bottles

Tuesday May 13, 2008
With the weather getting warmer, even those of us who aren't pathologically attached to our water bottles ( I'm pointing no fingers) are going to be carrying water around more. But the water bottle scene is changing fast. Not only is it totally uncool and environmentally unkind to grab a new disposable plastic bottle of water every time you want a drink, but even some of the trusty old standbys, the hard plastic reusables have come under scrutiny. This is because some of them are made of Plastic #7 and there is a possibility that Plastic #7 could leach BPA, bisphenol A, a toxic chemical and possible carcinogen, into the water. So what to do?

Wendy Bumgardner, About.com's guide to walking, has taken on the water bottle issue in a big way. I suggest you take a look at her article about BPA-free water bottles, and her reviews of the same.
