The Bottom Line

I'm impressed with this book. It is well thought out and gives a lot of information in an easy-to-follow way. There is enough information about all the different aspects of Pilates covered in this book to justify the title, The Everything Pilates Book. The manual of mat exercises is particularly good.
Pros
  • It covers a wide range of topics in a clear concise way.
  • There is a good overview of all the basic matwork exercises.
  • The pictures are of real people, and you clearly see what they are doing.
  • Beginner modifiations are included in the exercise descriptions.
  • They show how the exercises build into more challenging versions.
Cons
  • The cover and graphic style may give this book a silly vibe.

Description

  • Gives a breadth of information and resources related to the history and practice of Pilates.
  • Excellent instructions for many Pilates mat work exercises.
  • A good introduction to the fundamental Pilates movement principles.

Guide Review - Review - The Everything Pilates Book

I am always appreciative of Pilates books that give sufficient attention to the fundamentals of Pilates movement, as this one does. The mat exercise instructions are also excellent, with many tips that provide in-depth insight as to how an exercise is supposed to work. Along with the exercise instructions, the photos of exercises in The Everything Pilates Book are among the best demonstrations I have seen in books showing Pilates technique.

Though I usually think of The Everything Pilates Book as an excellent reference for beginners, I actually find myself returning to it frequently to review specific points about an exercise or movement principle. I think it makes a valuable contribution to any Pilates student's library.
