Activewear Outside the Box:
I can't say that I get activewear questions regularly, but when I do or when the subject comes up in yoga or Pilates studios, a common complaint is that the selections are boring. The tank tops are predictable, the colors are safe, and the black yoga pants... well, there you go.
So I'm thinking some for us are looking for workout clothes with a little more flair. Maybe a statement piece or two - mod, colorful, maybe a little sexy? If that sounds like you, read this review.
The Margarita Brand:
My Very Wide Waist Band Workout Pant:
The pant I was provided was Margarita's wide waist band pant (fig. 2). My first pleasant surprise was the quality. Sometimes lines that are more "showy" are a little cheap on fabric or craftsmanship, but I found these to be right up there with the other top brands I've reviewed like Lululemon, Lucy, and Prana.
I also love the wide waistband - it's pretty and flattering, and it is textural. The band is layered fabric, not just stripes of fabric sewn along the edges - so much more interesting this way. The pants are a good strong black with a trim leg fit and flare.
Comfortable and breathable supplex with lycra - $87.00
Wide - Where's the Wild?:
OK. The extra wide waistband pant is one of the tamer yoga pants Margarita makes. I've included a couple of other photos here to prove it. Companies tend to err on the side of caution when they send me things to review. There is a daisy logo that isn't tiny on the rear of the pants and even that is pushing my "am I too old to wear this?" button.
And another caveat: Margarita yoga pants run small. And they don't even make all their pants in extra large. But such is sizing these days -- all over the map. These are young, fun clothes. Not that you can't wear them if you are older. None of us are too old to get our bold on. Some of the patterns and styling on both the tops and bottoms are artsy, some are cute, and some are sexy (fig.3). There are stripes, zig zags, and blocks of color alongside butterflies, mod flowers, and tie dye. Just be aware that you might want a bigger size, whatever your age, and you might have to deal with a cute daisy on your butt (some have it, some don't).
The bottom line is that Margarita is making dynamic, quality activewear for women. I very much enjoyed looking over a line of clothing with so much bold color and pattern to choose from. Margarita is available through activewearusa, who provided my pants, as well as through many other online retailers.
