Definition: Pilates stance refers to a slightly turned out position of the legs. The legs are rotated outward at the hip, leaving the heels together and the toes apart. This position emphasizes the center line of the body. Pronunciation: Pi-la-tees Stan-s Also Known As: First position. Pilates stance is less turned out than a traditional ballet first position.
