Why did you want to start Pilates classes?

I was lucky to live in Santa Fe NM 20 years ago and Pilates was well underway there. I had heard about Pilates for many years because I was a dancer, but when my employer, a Dr. whom I admired very much, recommended it, I went for my first class.

Did you start with a mat, equipment, or combo class?

I started with a Pilates reformer class.

Where was the class held?

The class was at a Pilates studio run by the PhysicalMind Institute.

How did you feel in your first class?

I was a little nervous but I had some confidence because I was used to dance and fitness classes.

Did you like that first class?

I Loved It! It was supposed to be a group class, but Pilates was just getting known then and no one else showed up. I had a fantastic private class and went back for many more. I was lucky to get a good teacher, Ray Kurshals, right away.

Advice

  • If you don't like the first class you go to, don't give up. Try a different instructor or studio.
  • I would have learned faster if I had been a little more humble. Because of my background I thought I was doing a lot of things right that I later found out weren't serving me, but I was too sure of myself to see it.
