Pilates for Plus Size Exercise

Monday July 13, 2009
Don't let being plus size stop you from doing Pilates. One of the persistent fears people have about Pilates classes is that everyone there will be slim and fit except for them. I'm here to tell you, that's just not true. All kinds of people: young and old, large and small, fit, unfit, and injured take Pilates classes.

The Pilates method is very well suited to for plus size and overweight fitness. The Pilates method starts with exercise fundamentals and movement principles that can be applied by anyone at any level. From there, exercises can be modified to meet different needs, and even the equipment (which is very sturdy by the way) can be adjusted for different sizes.

If you or someone you know is plus size and on the edge of getting into Pilates, read Can Plus Size People Do Pilates?. In that article I go into some detail about how Pilates can work for plus size, what the benefits are, and how to get involved.
