I told this story in my newsletter this week but I want to tell it again because, well, it's fun and it illustrates a point. I was talking with a yoga teacher friend the other day, "funny" he said, "people always say they want a yoga butt but they say they want a Pilates body".
We're just talking figures of speech (an irresistible pun) here. People are just expressing a desire that their body look a certain way. We associate a nice butt with yoga. We associate long, lean muscles and flat abs with Pilates. Which is all kind of odd because you can get a firm, lifted butt with Pilates and flat abs through yoga. So much for generalizations.
It's nice to have systems, like Pilates and yoga, that can deliver amazing bodies -- provided you do the consistent work it takes. Here's the thing though: They deliver so much more if you go below the surface. Abs, butts, thighs, whatever come along with the show. They aren't even the main attraction.
Haven't we all seen people who have the physique but not the inner light, grace and vitality that make it all work together and be truly useful and attractive? I'm going into this in a big way in my latest article, What is a Pilates Body? Read it. Let me know what you think. Your comments are always welcome.
